I recently received the following article from my esteemed colleague and associate Mr. Ian Thomas. This could have serious implications -
The recent earthquake in Japan has knocked the world approx 20mm off its access, as has been widely reported. Also, it appears each day is now marginally shorter.
My thoughts are that the proposal of Prof Loof of the Royal Greenwich Observatory (International Date Institute of Time) to compensate by eliminating leap years will cause havoc. A couple of my clients who build forward logic into their products are appalled.
You may also wish to forward this discussion to any clients that you feel may be affected.
I suspect some sort of lobby group will be set up, both in UK and Internationally, but I'd like to get the general views of those it will affect.
What do you think?

NO TIME FOR TWITTER!
2010 was an interesting period mainly in context of the ancient Chinese curse which translates something like ‘May you live in interesting times’; maybe there’s something in this?
Anyway, the fallout from the global financial meltdown and a general malaise infecting almost every aspect of business and major economies certainly didn’t make 2010 a vintage year!
However, one of the major features of 2010 was the explosion of ‘Social Media’ or ‘Social Networking’ or ‘Micro Blogging’ – Facebook, Youtube, Twitter etc etc . As a seasoned professional, who’s been around the block a few times, I, for one dismissed Social Media as another kids’ fad that had no real business value and just clogged up cyberspace; I wonder how many of you felt the same, and perhaps still do?
Well, I’m here to say I was wrong!
Unless you spent 2010 in a cave contemplating your naval or some such, you must, at least, have heard of Twitter™. Ok, yes it’s one of those social media kiddie things. – "No time for that nonsense, I’m a serious business professional!" - Well that was certainly my initial reaction – how wrong I was. After some research and involvement I have to say that Twitter is probably one of the most powerful business tools this side of the Technological Revolution of the ‘70’s.
Why Twitter? Analysis clearly shows that twitter subscribers are 8, yes 8 times more likely to click on a link (to your website) than in any other social media platform! That’s really good news for business users.
Now, A bold, but true statement!
Tell me; for a modest investment of, say $1000 could you increase customer footfall by 35% and revenues by $835,000 in just one week! A major fastfood chain did just that, through a very simple Twitter campaign. Astonishing but true! And they’re not alone, many of the ‘much, admired’ businesses such Starbucks, Domino and BT as well as very small, local businesses (including us) regularly use Twitter to similar effect.
So! NO TIME FOR TWITTER?
Some more Twitter facts –
Twitter has over 185million subscribers and gaining 300,000 new subscribers everyday!
Twitter Subscribers send over 55 million Tweets per day!
Twitter’s search engine receives over 600 million hits per day!
So! STILL NO TIME FOR TWITTER?
Twitter when used effectively, complements or indeed replaces the initial stages of a sales and marketing campaign!
1. Traditional Advertising campaign –expensive, Twitter campaign - free
2. Traditional Marketing campaign – expensive, Twitter campaign – free
And much .... much more!
Are you beginning to see the value and potential of Twitter in your business?
But don’t have enough hours in the day? - YES
So! STILL NO TIME TO TWITTER?
